Female's In Tech

''Being a woman in tech means breaking barriers so that those who come after me won't have to struggle the same way. It means showing the world my ability and believing in myself wholeheartedly.''- Kike Oniwinde: The Founder & CEO of BYP Network.

I am a female technologist even though I'm no Alpha in Tech but I'd call myself a beginner in the Tech field because there is something new to learn daily. After all, technology keeps evolving and upgrading just like that we have to keep on par with it. ''The moment your passion starts with technology it's never going back'', said a female technologist Bandana Elisha who somehow has also become an inspiration to me because of her achievements and dominance in the Tech field. I had been hearing the tech industry is male-dominated, but I believe it is just a myth. This logic can be evident by our Women in technology from Ada Lovelace to one of my personal role models Radia Perlman, nicknamed the mother of the internet are examples of the leading ladies in Tech. There are now more females pursuing jobs and careers in the STEM field. Technology is no longer a male dominant field or maybe it never was. In my previous blog, I had written all about how I ended up in the IT profession. Let me give a little recap, I began my university education as an English major but then after one unit of having IT class but interest totally switched to tech. Dropping my English major and finally joining a career that I am passionate about. For me, tech is not merely a profession but it's my passion and I want to build an established career in this field and nothing will stop me from achieving my goals. One of the challenges I found in the tech school was Programming languages but gradually I adapted to it since it is a language known by all technologists but my forte and interest have always been networking. The most important thing for me in the tech field is that you should be really good at what you're doing. Even if there is one thing you are a specialist in you should be really good at that. When I first entered my workplace I was faced by a group of males. I was sitting timidly in a corner waiting for my supervisor when I saw a female Technician at her desk and she was working on a UPS and at that point in time, I got inspired seeing her and telling myself I want to be like her. Then I gained my confidence and now well adapted to work with a group of males without any gender discrimination. “Girls are capable of doing everything men are capable of doing. Sometimes they have more imagination than men” - Katherine Johnson, NASA Mathematician.

My biggest motivation is my failures and my biggest strength is my confidence and I am surely not going back but will move ahead as far as I can go with this journey. And being a woman in Tech is one of the proudest and greatest accomplishments of my life!
