"Verity" by Colleen Hoover is a psychological thriller and romantic suspense book that I recently read because of its popularity on TikTok. Its complex storyline, engaging characters, and surprising turns make it a novel that will stay with you even after finishing it. I devoured the entire book in just a few hours because the suspense was so gripping.
The story follows around Lowen Ashleigh, an aspiring writer presented with a unique opportunity to finalize a renowned author's book series following the incapacitation of the author, Verity Crawford, whose writing career was tragically cut short. Lowen is hired by Verity's husband, Jeremy Crawford, to go through Verity's notes and manuscripts to help finish the series. As Lowen settles into the Crawford’s home to work on the project, she discovers Verity’s unpublished autobiography, which reveals shocking and disturbing confessions.
The autobiography exposes dark secrets about Verity’s past, including her troubled marriage and unsettling behavior towards her children. As Lowen reads through the manuscript, she becomes entangled in a web of deceit, danger, and moral ambiguity. Her growing attraction to Jeremy complicates things further, as she struggles with her own dilemmas and the terrifying truth about Verity's true nature.
The novel’s strength lies in its exploration of the nature of truth and deception, and how these elements play out in personal relationships and professional settings.
Verity keeps readers guessing with its relentless pacing and numerous twists and turns.
Overall, Verity is a captivating thriller that combines psychological elements with a compelling plot. It is a must-read for fans of suspense and those intrigued by narratives exploring darker aspects of human nature. Hoover’s ability to weave a compelling story with surprising twists makes Verity a remarkable and unforgettable read.
